About Teacher Prep Program

If you ever thought you might want to be a teacher,
we have great news for you.

Thanks to a unique program offered by our colleges--American River, Cosumnes River, Folsom Lake, Sacramento City--and California State University, Sacramento, you now can get your BA degree and elementary teaching credential in just 41/2 years instead of the usual 51/2 years.

Here's How it Works

The new approach to teacher preparation in California is called the Blended Program. It begins with two early courses that place prospective teachers in schools doing real work alongside credentialed teachers. In this way, you can discover early if teaching is really what you want to do.

Instead of waiting until you graduate with your BA degree to begin the actual teacher preparation courses, the Blended Program incorporates education courses into the BA degree in Liberal Studies and an elementary teaching credential at the same time.

And You Can Save Money

If you want to enter the Blended Program, you can complete your first two years at a Los Rios College which offer all the courses you need to complete the first two years of the Blended Program, including the two field experience courses at a local elementary school.

Each of our colleges has a coordinator to help you learn more about the program; counselors trained to help you pick the right classes; and instructors who will be there to help you succeed.
