Description: This course emphasizes the history, sources, techniques, and problems of art. Included are illustrated lectures, readings, and discussions on the various manifestations of art in cultures throughout the world. This course is recommended as a basis for the understanding of art. A field trip is required.

ARTH 314 History of Western Architecture: Renaissance to Modern 3 Units
Prerequisite: None.
Advisory: ENGWR 301 or 302 ; with a grade of "C" or better.

Description: This course addresses the history of architecture in the Western world from c. 1400 up to the Modernist period, c. 1900. The course covers Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassical, and 19th century architecture in Europe and America, and will focus on the functions and meanings of architecture within Western culture. A field trip to view local architecture is required.
