Home About Us Board of Trustees Student Trustee

The student trustee is the student voice on the board of trustees.

The student trustee represents the interests of the entire community and provides perspective to ensure that future students will be well-served. In addition to serving on the board of trustees, the student trustee chairs the Student Advisory Committee, which provides a forum for communication and exchange of ideas, information, and concerns among students.

John (Jay) Doherty

June 2023 to May 2024

John (Jay) Doherty is a student at American River College majoring in Business Administration. He brings both his perspective as a student and as an advocate in the Associated Student Body to the Board of Trustees.

During his time at American River College, Jay served on the Club and Events Board to revitalize student life after the pandemic. In addition, Jay works in the Center for Leadership and Development as a student ambassador, providing guidance to peers and implementing initiatives to increase community engagement.

One outlet for community engagement was cultivated through his founding of the Environmental Protection Club. The club works to educate the student body and advocate for environmentally sustainable practices on campus.

Jay plans to transfer in the Fall of 2024 from Los Rios to a four-year university where he will continue his journey in higher education.
