Description: This course will introduce students to the field of early childhood education, including an overview of the history of the field, current curriculum approaches, and programs serving children from infancy through the school-age years. It reviews the current status of education of young children, with a focus on integrated education. Students will learn and apply skills in observing young children, documenting the work of young children, and interpreting these documents in order to plan subsequent curriculum. Opportunities to observe in a variety of early childhood education settings will be included. This class will prepare students with background and skills they need before entry into the student teaching laboratory classes.
