Description: Survey history of the United States from 1607 to the present, emphasizing the economic and social conditions that gave women more actual respect and some public power. Course includes the roles of women in Native American tribes, the English heritage of the colonists, the contributions of women in creating new homes and farms, and the role of women in times of war. Emphasis on the role of women in the three major social issues of the 19th century: labor, abolition, and women's rights. Includes present-day issues and the legacy of how women in the past dealt with similar issues.
