Description: This course is an introduction to early childhood education, including an overview of the history of the field, current curriculum approaches, and programs serving children from infancy through the school-age years. It reviews the current status of education of young children with a focus on integrated education. Description: This course is a career exploration course with an early field experience for those students considering the field of K-8 teaching. It includes a supervised field placement and four hours weekly in a local elementary school in addition to weekly class meetings on campus. It will also fulfill one of the early field experiences for the CSUS blended liberal studies major. Course content includes the profession and culture of teaching, observation skills, communication skills, diversity and social issues among others. Students' field experiences will integrate and apply the course content. Students will complete a service learning project at participating schools. Before beginning field placement, students must show proof of TB clearance. Fingerprint clearance may be required by elementary school.

Description: This course prepares teachers in early childhood education with strategies for introducing young children to the media and tools of drawing, painting, sculpting, and other visual arts commonly used by young children to represent and understand the world around them.
