Description: This first semester intermediate Spanish course is the continuation of SPAN 402. It provides further development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with continued emphasis on communicative skills. It covers more complex grammar topics. Students will be expected to engage in meaningful communicative situations without relying on learned responses. Additionally, students will increase their knowledge of the culture and customs of the Spanish speaking world, and gain a deeper understanding of its values and traditions. (C-ID SPAN 200)

Description: This second semester of Intermediate Spanish is designed to help students further develop skills acquired in SPAN 411. Readings in the original of the various literary genres (the short story, poetry, drama, the essay), by Hispanic authors, provide topics for discussion as well as venues in which to practice grammatical concepts and to develop vocabulary. Literary analysis is used as a tool for oral and written practice on grammatical points needed by the students. Students will develop increased cultural awareness and will continue to acquire knowledge of geography, culture, history, customs, traditions, and Spanish-speakers' contributions to the world community. The class is conducted exclusively in Spanish. Students will be able to handle complicated conversations using past and future time frames. The emphasis is on communication. (C-ID SPAN 210)

The course also covers diacritical marks, such as the accent mark, and their uses. In addition, the course introduces the student to the geography, history, and culture of the Spanish-speaking world. This course is conducted in Spanish.
