Description: The Step Aerobics class is a physical education course designed to improve an individual's level of fitness, general appearance, and well being. This course will concentrate on cardio-respiratory fitness, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance, resting and training heart rates, injury prevention, and weight management through step aerobics. This will be achieved through a variety of exercises using hand weights to strengthen upper body, abdominal exercises and various step routines. The course may be taken four times for credit.

Description: This course is designed to improve the student's fitness level through the use of shallow water aquatic exercises. Specifically, the student should increase muscular strength and endurance, as well as improve flexibility and cardio-respiratory fitness. Additionally, the student will learn about resting and training heart rates, weight management, and injury prevention as it relates to exercise. No swimming skills are needed. This course may be taken four times for credit.

Description: This beginning course covers a method of body conditioning that includes a unique system of stretch and strength exercises. Mat Pilates is designed to work with the deepest muscles in the body while creating core strength without pain. The sequence of matwork exercises will strengthen and tone muscles, improve body posture, and increase flexibility and balance while uniting body and mind. Description: This course is an open-entry/open-exit course designed to increase cardiovascular endurance, strength, and flexibility through the use of circuit training. Fitness 371 is an open-entry/open-exit course where students work on their course curriculum in a self-paced manner during the open lab hours. Instructors are present to assist students in meeting their exercise goals and course requirements each open lab hour. Fitness 371 Requirements

ALL STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO:

1) Purchase the Life Fitness Center manual and lanyard (ID card holder) at the college bookstore.
2) Students who have not taken Fitness 371 before must complete a mandatory program orientation. Students must have the Life Fitness Center Manual and Student Identification Card for the orientation!
3) All continuing Fitness 371 students (students who have taken Fitness 371 prior) will be asked to review and update their enrollment forms (Forms 1, 2, & 3).
4) Have a valid Sacramento City College student identification card before using the Life Fitness Center for exercise.
5) Have a towel (either personal or purchased at the Campus bookstore) before being allowed entrance into the Life Fitness Center.


Orientation:
The Life Fitness Center Manual is necessary to participate in the 1.5 hour program orientation. For information on orientation hours and other details regarding the LFC please visit: http://sccpanthers.losrios.edu/lifefitnesscenter/

FITNS 380    Circuit Weight Training    1 Unit

Prerequisite: None.

Course Transferable to UC/CSU
Hours: 54 hours LAB
Description: Circuit Weight Training combines machine weight training, some free-weight training, core medicine ball training, body weight training, cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance and flexibility while decreasing body fat. It is a wellness program in which a student, using different muscle groups, will alternate timed lifting with timed recovery. This course may be taken four times for credit.

Description: This course covers the basic fundamentals, stroke techniques, and safety skills. The beginning swimming course is designed for non-swimmers who cannot swim one length of the pool (25 yards). Instruction will be given in the physical and psychological adjustment to water as well as basic swimming stroke techniques. Intermediate swimming instruction includes refining the freestyle stroke, backstroke, and breast stroke. Butterfly and turn techniques will be taught. Advanced level of instruction will be provided in the advanced swimming course. The emphasis of the course will be endurance and stroke efficiency. This course may be taken four times for credit.
