KINES 300    Introduction to Kinesiology    3 Units

Description: This course provides students with an orientation to the history and trends in kinesiology, physical education, fitness, and sport. Students will be introduced to various career, ethical, allied health, and professional issues in the kinesiology, physical education, and sports fields. An introduction to the major subfields including exercise physiology, biomechanics, motor learning, sport sociology, nutrition, and sport and exercise psychology will be discussed. This course was formerly known as PET 300.

Description: This course is designed to provide the theoretical knowledge necessary to prepare for the American Council on Exercise's National Personal Training Certification Exam. Topics include the following: introduction to exercise physiology and exercise adaptation, human anatomy, applied kinesiology, basic nutrition and nutritional strategies for exercise, obesity and weight management, fitness across the lifespan, and special considerations.
