Description: The Step Aerobics class is a physical education course designed to improve an individual's level of fitness, general appearance, and well being. This course will concentrate on cardio-respiratory fitness, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance, resting and training heart rates, injury prevention, and weight management through step aerobics. This will be achieved through a variety of exercises using hand weights to improve upper body strength, abdominal exercises, and various step routines.

Description: This course is designed to improve the student's fitness level through the use of shallow water aquatic exercises. Specifically, the student should increase muscular strength and endurance, as well as improve flexibility and cardio-respiratory fitness. Additionally, the student will learn about resting and training heart rates, weight management, and injury prevention as it relates to exercise. No swimming skills are needed.

Description: This beginning course covers a method of body conditioning that includes a unique system of stretch and strength exercises. Mat Pilates is designed to work with the deepest muscles in the body while creating core strength without pain. The sequence of matwork exercises will strengthen and tone muscles, improve body posture, and increase flexibility and balance while uniting body and mind.

Description: Spin Bike is specifically designed for students to improve their cardiovascular and strength levels with low impact on the joints. This course will use basic cycling and fitness drills based on speed, work resistance, and recovery periods. There may be some conditioning techniques done off the bikes as well.

Fitness 371 Requirements

ALL STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO:

1) Purchase the Life Fitness Center manual and lanyard (ID card holder) at the college bookstore.
2) Students who have not taken Fitness 371 before must complete a mandatory program orientation. Students must have the Life Fitness Center Manual and Student Identification Card for the orientation!
3) All continuing Fitness 371 students (students who have taken Fitness 371 prior) will be asked to review and update their enrollment forms (Forms 1 & 2).
4) Have a valid Sacramento City College student identification card before using the Life Fitness Center for exercise.
5) Have a towel (either personal or purchased at the Campus bookstore) before being allowed entrance into the Life Fitness Center.


Orientation:
Students who have not taken Fitness 371 before must complete a mandatory program orientation. The Life Fitness Center Manual which can be purchased at the College Store, is necessary to participate in the 1.5 hour program orientation. The Orientation time and date is as follows:

Description: This course is an open-entry/open-exit course designed to provide instruction in proper training techniques for increasing muscular strength and endurance, utilizing plate-loaded apparatus, free weights, selectorized weight machines, and Olympic lifting techniques. A required orientation includes an individualized fitness assessment, learning guidelines on accessing fitness, training, and wellness information on-line, and discussing how to train safely and efficiently using state-of-the-art equipment. This course is graded Pass/No Pass. Students may enroll in the class up to the fourth week of the semester.

Description: This course is an open-entry/open-exit course designed to provide instruction in functional fitness exercises. Functional fitness exercises are designed to train your muscles to work together and prepare them for daily tasks by simulating movements that individuals might do at home, work, or in sports. FITNS 371 and FITNS 372 with a Pass grade are prerequisites for this class. This course is graded Pass/No Pass. Students may enroll in the class up to the fourth week of the semester.

Description: This course is an open-entry, open-exit, course designed to provide instruction in cross training fitness exercises. Cross training fitness programs are designed to help the student balance his or her fitness program by varying the workout routines engaging different muscle groups. Cross training improves overall fitness and helps prevent overuse injuries that are common in single activity programs. Emphasis is placed on the use of multiple aerobic activities (walking, running, biking, elliptical) plus muscular strength and functional fitness exercises. FITNS 371, FITNS 372, and FITNS 373 with a Pass grade are prerequisites for this course. This course is graded Pass/No Pass. Students may enroll in the course up to the fourth week of the semester.

Description: This is an open-entry/open-exit course designed to teach advanced intermediate swimmers (those who have mastered intermediate swimming skills) to identify and demonstrate proper technique specific to the four competitive strokes, proper training protocols, and training design. Students will learn and refine proper stroke technique of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Students will refine underwater efficiency in diving, turns, and breakouts for all competitive strokes. Students will develop more advanced swim training protocols, drills, and workout designs. Students may enroll in the class up to the fourth week of the semester.
TBA refers to 3.17 hours per week for a total of 54 hours for the semester.

Fitness 444 Open Lab Hours:
Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Friday, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm


ALL STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO:
1) Complete a mandatory program orientation. Students must have their Student Identification Card for the orientation!
2) Successfully complete basic swim test outlined in the course prerequisites.

Orientation:
Students who are enrolled in Fitness 441, 442, 443, 444 must complete a mandatory program orientation. There will be three 1.0 hour program orientations offered each day during the first week. Please arrive on time. The Fall Orientation times and dates are as follows:    



August 21 Monday 9:00 am-10:00 am; 10:00 am-11:00 am; 12:00 pm- 1:00 pm Hoos Pool
August 22 Tuesday 9:00 am-10:00 am; 10:00 am-11:00 am; 12:00 pm- 1:00 pm Hoos Pool
August 23 Wednesday 9:00 am-10:00 am; 10:00 am-11:00 am; 12:00 pm- 1:00 pm Hoos Pool
August 24 Thursday 9:00 am-10:00 am; 10:00 am-11:00 am; 12:00 pm- 1:00 pm Hoos Pool
August 25 Friday 9:00 am-10:00 am; 10:00 am-11:00 am; 12:00 pm- 1:00 pm Hoos Pool



Open Entry/Open Exit classes allow students to participate in swimming classes located in Hoos Pool during open times to achieve their fitness goals. There are 19 hours during the week that are available to students to choose from. The classes above are available for students to utilize Hoos Pool.
