ADMJ 301    Investigative Report Writing    3 Units

Prerequisite: ENGWR 101 with a grade of "C" or better

Description: This course provides a study of the techniques of communicating facts in a clear, comprehensive, concise, and logical manner. Emphasis is placed on administration of justice terminology, use of English and organization of information, note taking and report writing, and presentation of testimony in court.

ADMJ 381    PC832 Firearms    1 Unit

Prerequisite: None.
Enrollment Limitation: Students must present California Department of Justice (DOJ) Livescan clearance letter on the first day of class. This letter must be dated within the past six months.
Course Transferable to CSU
Hours: 8 hours LEC ; 16 hours LAB
Description: This course is a basic introduction to the legal aspects of firearms usage and is in compliance with California Penal Code section 832 and requirements of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). Course topics include: firearms safety, basic firearms operation, firearms ammunition, firearms cleaning and maintenance, and basic fundamentals of shooting. Students must provide their own approved semi-automatic handgun, 9mm or larger, 500 rounds of ammunition, and all safety gear. Students must also provide a CA Department of Justice Livescan fingerprint clearance letter. Students must provide their own transportation to an off-site firearms range. This course may be taken up to four times for POST certification requirements. Pass/No pass only.

Off Site at Sacramento Valley Shooting Range, 15501 Meiss Road, Sloughhouse, CA 95683. This three day course requires absolute attendance in all 24 hours of instruction and lab. The lecture portion of this class meets June 24 in room FLP-10, and the lab portion meets June 25-26. Students must get fingerprinted before attending this class. Students must provide their own approved handgun, safety gear, holster, ammunition, etc. Students are required to pass a course of fire with minimum 80% accuracy in order to pass the course. Range training will convene rain or shine. ADMJ 498    Work Experience in Administration of Justice    1-4 Units

Prerequisite: None.
Advisory: ENGWR 101
General Education: AA/AS Area III(b)
Enrollment Limitation: Student must be in a paid or non-paid internship, volunteer opportunity or job related to the administration of justice/criminal justice field. Students are advised to consult with the Administration of Justice Department to review specific certificate and degree work experience requirements.

Hours: 300 hours LAB
Description: This course provides students with opportunities to develop marketable skills in preparation for employment or advancement within their current job. Course content will include understanding the application of education to the workforce; completion of required forms, which document the student's progress and hours spent at the work site; and developing workplace skills and competencies. During the course of the semester, the student is required to fulfill a 16 hour orientation and 75 hours of related paid work experience, or 60 hours of unpaid work experience, for one unit. An additional 75 or 60 hours of related work experience is required for each additional unit. The course may be taken four times for credit, when there is new or expanded learning on the job, for a maximum of 16 units.

This is an online course. A mandatory, in-class orientation is required for all new and returning students registered in a Work Experience course. All students must attend one of the three class orientations which are scheduled as follows: Tuesday, June 8, 2010, from 4:45PM-7:15PM in FL1-207; Tuesday, June 22, 2010, from 4:45PM -7:15PM in FL-2-207; or Tuesday, July 20, 2010, from 4:45PM-7:15PM in FL1-207.
