TAP 340    Musical Rehearsal and Performance I    1-3 Units

Musical Performance and Technical Production
Prerequisite: None.
Enrollment Limitation: Students must audition and/or interview with the director to participate in this course.

Hours: 162 hours LAB
Description: This course is the first level of four courses in the rehearsal and performance of a musical theatre production. It provides workshop training for students performing in their first musical theatre production. Students audition with the director for acting, singing or dancing roles in a comedy or drama.

This variable unit class is for prospective actors and requires an audition prior to enrollment. Students may sign up for 0.5, 1.0, or 3.0 units. Please contact the instructor. This class will rehearse and perform Spring Awakening. The winner of 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Spring Awakening explores the journey from adolescence to adulthood with poignancy and passion. This landmark musical is an electrifying fusion of morality, sexuality and rock & roll. Join this group of late 19th century German students on their passage as they navigate teenage self-discovery and coming of age anxiety in a powerful celebration of youth and rebellion.


Audition Dates: January 27 and 28, 2014, 6:30 pm, PE 203 Dance Studio.

Rehearsal Dates: February 3 through April 8, 2014.

Performance Dates: April 9 through April 13, 2014.

This class has 2.2 - 13 hours TBA per week depending upon the number of units taken. All TBA hours will be held in room PAC 1170.

TAP 350    Musical Technical Production I    1-3 Units

Musical Performance and Technical Production
Prerequisite: None.
Enrollment Limitation: Students must interview with the technical director to participate in this course. Interviews should be scheduled during the first two weeks of the semester.
Course Transferable to CSU
Hours: 162 hours LAB
Description: This course is the first level of four courses which provide a workshop training experience for students working in their first position on the production crew of a musical theatre production. Students interested in technical work interview for positions in stage management, crewing, set construction, costumes and makeup, lighting and sound, box office and publicity. Students will gain practical experience in applying production responsibilities in any of the following: stage management, house management, construction, scenery, scenic painting, properties, costume, lighting, sound, video/projections, and running crews.
