Description: This course is designed to provide the theoretical knowledge necessary to prepare for the American Council on Exercise's National Personal Training Certification Exam. Topics include the following: exercise physiology, human anatomy, applied kinesiology, basic nutrition, health screening, fitness assessment, cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility.

Description: This course is designed to provide students with the basic guidelines for starting and managing health, fitness and studio facilities in the private sector. Topics covered include initial start-up of the facility, operating procedures with emphasis on equipment selection and arrangement, employee selection and training, program planning, member management, and marketing. KINES 416    Sport and Fitness Psychology: Motivational Strategies for Behavioral Change    2 Units

KINES 498    Work Experience in Physical Education    1-4 Units

Enrollment Limitation: Students must be in a paid or non-paid internship, volunteer opportunity or job related to physical education. Students are advised to consult with the Physical Education Department faculty to review specific certificate and degree work experience requirements.

Description: This course provides students with opportunities to develop marketable skills in preparation for employment or advancement within the field of physical education. It is designed for students interested in work experience and/or internships in transfer level degree occupational programs. Course content includes understanding the application of education to the workforce; completion of required forms which document the student's progress and hours spent at the work site; and developing workplace skills and competencies. Appropriate level learning objectives are established by the student and the employer. During the semester, the student is required to fulfill a weekly orientation and 75 hours of related paid work experience, or 60 hours of unpaid work experience for one unit. An additional 75 or 60 hours of related work experience is required for each additional unit. The weekly orientation is required for first time participants; returning participants are not required to attend the orientation weekly but are required to meet with the instructor as needed to complete all program forms and assignments. Work Experience may be taken for a total of 16 units when there are new or expanded learning objectives.
