TA 300    Introduction to the Theatre    3 Units

Prerequisite: None.
General Education: AA/AS Area I; CSU Area C1; IGETC Area 3A

Description: This course focuses on the relationship of theatre to various cultures throughout history, and on the contributions of significant individual artists. This course introduces students to elements of the production process including playwriting, acting, directing, design, and criticism. Students will also survey different periods, styles and genres of theatre through play reading, discussion, films and viewing and critiquing live theatre, including required attendance of theatre productions. It is an audience-oriented, non-performance theatre arts course open to all students. (C-ID THTR 111)

Online Orientation
There is no on-campus orientation for this course. Each student must complete the online orientation to Desire2Learn (available at http://elearning.losrios.edu) by Monday, June 8th. Each student must e-mail Professor Braden at bradenk@crc.losrios.edu before Monday, June 8th, in order to remain in the course.
To take this class, you may use the CRC Computer Lab in LRC-204; otherwise, you must have access to a computer with the following minimum requirements: (1) DSL, Cable modem or faster connection to the Internet, (2) e-mail account, (3) Microsoft Word software, (4) Adobe Acrobat Reader, (5) Flash Media player (latest version)


TA 350    Theory and Techniques of Acting I    3 Units

Prerequisite: None.
General Education: AA/AS Area I; CSU Area C1
Course Transferable to UC/CSU

Description: This course explores the theories and techniques used in the preparation of a role for the stage. American realistic scenes and monologues are staged and performed in the classroom. The emphasis will be placed on broadening the understanding of the acting process. (C-ID THTR 151)

TA 498    Work Experience in Theatre Arts    1-4 Units

Prerequisite: None.
General Education: AA/AS Area III(b)
Enrollment Limitation: Students must be in a paid or unpaid internship, volunteer position or job related to career goals in Theatre Arts.
Course Transferable to CSU
Hours: 300 hours LAB
Description: This course provides students with opportunities to develop marketable skills in preparation for employment in their major field of study or advancement within their career. It is designed for students interested in work experience and/or internships in transfer level degree occupational programs. Course content includes understanding the application of education to the workforce; completion of required forms which document the student's progress and hours spent at the work site; and developing workplace skills and competencies. Appropriate level learning objectives are established by the student and the employer. During the semester, the student is required to participate in a weekly orientation and 75 hours of related paid work experience, or 60 hours of unpaid work experience for one unit. An additional 75 or 60 hours of related work experience is required for each additional unit. Work Experience may be taken for a total of 16 units when there are new or expanded learning objectives. Only one Work Experience course may be taken per semester.
