PLTS 310    Soils, Soil Management, and Plant Nutrition    3 Units

Same As: HORT 302
Prerequisite: HORT 300 or PLTS 300 with a grade of "C" or better
General Education: AA/AS Area IV; CSU Area B1; CSU Area B3; IGETC Area 5A; IGETC Area 5C

Hours: 36 hours LEC ; 54 hours LAB
Description: This course provides a basic knowledge of the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soils. The course includes factors of: fundamental soil properties, soil and plant relationships, principles of soil formation, fertilizers and soil management, salinity, pH, erosion management, and non-agricultural uses. Field trips may be required. This course is the same as Hort 302, and only one may be taken for credit.

To take this class, you ma use the CRC Computer Lab in LRC-204; otherwise, you must have access to a computer with the following minimum requirements: 1) Connection to the Internet 2) e-mail account.
Students must attend 16.80 hours of Saturday lab activities scheduled around hands-on practical application. Three meetings tentatively scheduled for Saturday, 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. on February 28, March 28 and April 25. Final Saturday lab dates will be finalized at the first class meeting. Attendance will be taken at the beginning and end of each lab. Information will be available at the first class meeting.

Prerequisite: HORT 300 or PLTS 300 with a grade of "C" or better

Hours: 36 hours LEC ; 54 hours LAB
Description: This course is a study of local plant pests including weeds, diseases, invertebrates, and vertebrates. It includes recognition of symptoms and causes, life cycle of the pests, host and habitat relationships, and the integrated pest management strategies and best management practices to achieve control. Field trips may be required. This course is the same as HORT 303, and only one may be taken for credit.
