CISN 300    Network Systems Administration    3 Units

Description: This course covers the administration of a server in a client/server network. Topics include designing a basic network, installing and configuring a network operating system, managing network security with user and group accounts, creating directory structures and network shares, setting up and managing network printers, backing up servers, monitoring and troubleshooting network resources, and establishing policies and procedures for network operations. Students need a computer with a good Internet connection that meets the minimal requirements to operate TestOut's browser-based LabSim 4.0 Interface. Students, who do not meet the minimum computer requirements, will have to use the e-book at the college's computer lab.
This exam is part one, of a series of three exams, which validate the skills and knowledge necessary to implement a core Windows Server 2012 Infrastructure into an existing enterprise environment. This exam will validate the initial implementation and configuration of the Windows Server 2012 core services, such as Active Directory and the networking services. This exam along with the remaining two exams will collectively validate the skills and knowledge necessary for implementing, managing, maintaining and provisioning services and infrastructure in a Windows Server 2012 environment. Candidates for this exam are IT professionals who configure or support Windows 8 computers, devices, users and associated network and security resources. The networks with which these professionals typically work are configured as a domain-based or peer-to-peer environment with access to the Internet and cloud services. The IT professional could be a consultant, full-time desktop support technician, or an IT generalist who administers Windows 8-based computers and devices as a portion of their broader technical responsibilities. CISN 306    Advanced Network Systems Administration    3 Units

Prerequisite: CISN 300 with a grade of "C" or better

Description: Students will learn to install, configure, and administer Microsoft Windows Active Directory services. The course also focuses on implementing Group Policy and understanding the Group Policy tasks required to centrally manage users and computers. Students will use Group Policies to configure and manage the user desktop environment, to configure and manage software, and implement and manage security settings. Students will install and manage Windows Domains and Domain Controllers through Active Directory.

Description: This course is an introduction to data communication and networking fundamentals. It surveys data communication hardware and software components and basic networking concepts. Topics covered include data communication, the OSI Model, IP addressing, routing concepts, LAN media, and network management and analysis. This course helps prepare students for CompTIA's Network+ certification exam.

This course is designed to prepare students for CompTIA's Network+ certification exam. This course presents current coverage or networking hardware and software along with the skills necessary to succeed in the dynamic field of networking. This course includes networking fundamentals such as protocols, network design and implementation, and troubleshooting and support.


CISN 490    Networking Helpdesk Practicum    2 Units

Prerequisite: CISC 308 and 356 with grades of "C" or better

Description: This course is an introduction to computer and networking support for a Local Area Network. It includes lecture and hands-on application of helpdesk concepts and responsibilities, hardware and software troubleshooting in a networked environment, system documentation, and technical communication skills.
