Description: This is an introductory course to provide general knowledge on how computers work, computer terminology and the impact of computers on society and the work environment. Beginning level hands-on instruction using an operating system, word processing software, spreadsheet software, database software, email and the Internet will be emphasized. Students will be reading and interpreting written and oral instructions of a technical nature. This course is the same as JOUR 330, and only one may be taken for credit. Description: From hubs to servers, this course will introduce students to the exciting field of computer networking. Beginners will become comfortable with the concepts and vocabulary of computer networking and will gain hands-on experience in basic networking technology. Some topics include the Internet and its tools; the diversity of Network Operating Systems one can use in a Local Area Network; how to configure communication protocols, such as TCP/IP; the distinction between a Local Area Network and a Wide Area Network; and the fundamentals of network architecture and design.

Description: This course provides students with opportunities to develop marketable skills in preparation for employment or advancement within their current job. Course content will include understanding the application of education to the workforce; completion of required forms, which document the student's progress and hours spent at the work site; and developing workplace skills and competencies. During the course of the semester, the student is required to fulfill an 18 hour orientation and 75 hours of related paid work experience, or 60 hours of unpaid work experience for one unit. An additional 75 or 60 hours of related work experience is required for each additional unit. The course may be taken again when there is new or expanded learning on the job for a maximum of 16 units.
