PSTC 1193    Continuing Professional Training for Peace Officers    .25-2 Units

Prerequisite: Completion of a POST/STC/CPOST Academy.

Description: This course consists of required modules of techniques and perishable skills required by law. Topics include laws of arrest, search and seizure, first aid and CPR, firearms, defensive tactics, illegal drugs, officer safety, civil liability, ethics, communication skills, interview and interrogation, investigations, crime scene processing, report writing, and current topics. Per California Code of Regulations, Title 5 and Title 11, this course may be taken multiple times for credit. Credit/No Credit only.

Course topics will include: Liability and Legal Updates, Arrest Control Techniques, Weapon Retention, Tactical Medicine, Familiarization with Assisting Law Enforcement with Vehicle Stops, Three Man Bump Entry Techniques, which includes Simunition training (Familiarization & Safety), and reality based scenario training designed to expose the probation officer to stressful situations in a controlled environment wherein the officers will be better prepared to handle real life situations. Because this course is designed to provide practical hands on training in police tactics and weapon usage, participants in this course will engage in physically demanding classroom training exercises that include a risk of injury to the participants. Description: This course satisfies the arrest, search and seizure requirement for peace officers as defined in section 832 of the California Penal Code. PSTC 1503    Basic Law Enforcement Academy- Module II    11 Units

Prerequisite: PSTC 1502
Enrollment Limitation: Students must 1) Be free of felony convictions 2) Possess a valid California Driver's License 3) Undergo a fingerprint and criminal history check 4) Be a minimum of 18 years of age 5) Be a United States high school graduate, pass the GED, pass the California High School Equivalency Examination, or have attained a two-year or four-year degree from an accredited college or university 6) Complete a medical suitability examination.

Description: This course provides basic internal affairs investigation techniques for the new Internal Affairs investigator. Topics include legal framework including the Peace Officers Bill of Rights, case law, interviewing and investigative techniques and writing requirements for such investigations. Description: Continuing Professional Training (CPT) is an 4-hour course designed to review techniques and update CPR skills and to refresh students Basic Academy skills with emphasis on control holds, handcuffing and defense against aggressive suspects.
The course will consist of Weaponless Defense Tactics Update Training.
Because this course is designed to provide practical hands on training in police tactics and weapon usage, participants in this course will engage in physically demanding classroom training exercises that include a risk of injury to the participants.
