CARPT 130    Layout/Leveling Construction Site Practice    1 Unit

Prerequisite: None
Enrollment Limitation: Registered Carpenter Apprentice.

Description: This course covers use of leveling devices. It includes reading and interpreting an engineer's rod, horizontal and vertical setting circles, and vernier scale. Additional topics include construction layout of horizontal and vertical angles.

Description: This course is a comprehensive study of materials, work processes and the proper use of tools necessary to install gypsum wallboard and interior metal studs.

CARPT 150    Concrete - Precast and Prestressed    1 Unit

Description: This course covers the use and placement of concrete in residential and commercial construction, mix designs and testing, aggregate, curing and construction designs. Topics include precast and prestressed concrete, materials, forms and molds, handling and lifting devices.

CARPT 180    Stair Building    1 Unit

Description: This course covers types, designs, nomenclature and Uniform Building Code requirements for building stairs. Topics include mathematical calculations and layout procedures, constructing stairs, landings, newels and handrails.

CARPT 298    Work Experience in Carpenters Apprenticeship    1-4 Units

Prerequisite: None.
Enrollment Limitation: Be in a carpenter's apprenticeship.
Hours: 300 hours LAB
Description: Supervised work in carpenters apprenticeship for the purpose of developing specific skills to meet the goals and objectives of the carpenters Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (J.A.T.C.). Students will be completing work experience hours at approved training sites. CARPT 298 may be taken for a total of 16 units.
