Description: This course covers the skills and tools necessary for daily independent living and success as a college student. It focuses specifically on disability management, personal goals and community and campus resources. It also serves as preparation for those individuals who are interested in careers in human services and disability services.

Description: This course covers the skills and knowledge necessary for college success. Topics include motivation, self discipline, learning styles, memory development, time management, communication skills, goal-setting, career planning, study skills and techniques, and critical thinking skills. Additionally, it covers personal issues that are commonly encountered by many college students. Campus resources, college regulations, and information competency are also addressed. This course is highly recommended for first time college students and/or continuing college students who would benefit. Field trips may be required.

Learning Community -- Puente Project (7 units) - Class Registration Number: INDIS 1000, 13486
This class (HCD 310) is taught in combination with ENGWR 362 (M, 12:00 - 12:50 PM) and ENGWR 300 (MW, 10:30 - 11:50 AM). The mission of the Puente Project is designed to increase the number of educationally underrepresented students who transfer to four-year Colleges and universities. Puente builds a community of motivated college students by providing English instruction in a supportive environment. The English composition course features Mexican American/ Latino literature; the Human Career Development class helps each student plan their class schedules and navigate the university application process. See course descriptions for ENGWR 300, 362, and HCD 310. One unit of the Reading Center and one unit of the Writing Center will be required. Sign up using the one class number listed for the Learning Community 13486; you will receive credit and a grade for each individual course listed in the Learning Community.
