Description: This course is a study of the architecture, sculpture, and painting of the ancient Near East and Europe from the Stone Age through the Middle Ages. Outstanding art works of each major period are discussed, analyzed, and placed within an historical context.

ARTH 333    Introduction to Islamic Art    3 Units

Description: This course studies the art and culture of Islam. It primarily focuses on Islamic art and architecture and provides fundamental information on the formation of Islamic art, its history and philosophy. It identifies works of art produced by artists from Muslim countries and regions. This course includes but is not limited to visual examples from Arabic, Persian and Indian cultures. Field trips may be required.

Description: This course is a worldwide survey of trends in art, including painting, sculpture, and architecture since 1980, with an emphasis on the diversity of contemporary global cultures. New art mediums, such as video, computer, street art, and performance art are highlighted. Social and political commentary in art are another primary focus. A field trip to a local art exhibition may be required.
