Access to and use of an academic library is required.

Learning Communities - First Year Experience (FYE) - 13 units - Registration Number: INDIS 1000, 19868
See INDIS 1000 for more complete information. This section of LIBR 318 is taught in combination with ENGWR 300 (MW 12:00PM-1:20PM), HCD 330 (1st 8-week, Online & Th 2:00PM-2:50PM), ANTH 310 (TTh 3:00PM-4:15PM), and MATH 100 (M-Th 10:30AM-11:40AM)
The First Year Experience Program (FYE) is a structured academic program designed to increase the likelihood of college success. This experience is the second semester of a two-semester program (1-year cohort). The FYE objective is to promote learning in a supportive environment. All of the classes in the course - ENGWR 300, HCD 330, LIBR 318, ANTH 310 and Math 100 are linked through instructors, assignments and lectures. All courses numbered 300 and above are transfer level courses. Sign up using the one class number listed for the Learning Community; you will receive credit and a grade for each individual course listed in the Learning Community. Students interested in enrolling in the second semester of the FYE Learning Community are required to complete the first semester of the program and attend an orientation with a counselor. Description: This course is a comprehensive survey of the content, use, and evaluation of electronic information sources. Emphasis is placed on the effective use of the Internet as a research tool. It covers Internet resources, online databases, email, newsgroups, listservs, blogs and the deep web. Database search strategies and techniques are covered. Historical and social issues surrounding the Internet are also discussed.
