Description: This survey course reviews western civilization from its origins in the Ancient Middle East until the Renaissance. It emphasizes the social, political, economic, cultural, and intellectual forces that have served to define western civilization. The focus is on the cultural legacies and contributions of the Ancient Middle East, Greece, Rome, and Medieval Europe to the development of western civilization. (Part of C-ID HIST 170)

Description: This course is a survey of United States history from its European, African, and Native American backgrounds to 1865. The course examines the origin and development of many of this nation's political, social, economic and intellectual institutions including their influences upon contemporary American life. These analyses also emphasize such historical concepts as cause and effect, multiple causation, and historical interpretation. This course is not open to students who have completed HIST 483.
