Description: This course is designed to teach about options and resources relevant to student success at American River College. The focus is on academic and personal goal setting, campus resources, academic requirements, basic study skill development and strategies that are compatible with academic success.

See INDIS 1000, 19858, for more complete information. This section of HCD 111 is taught in combination with ENGWR 101 (MW 10:30 AM - 12:35 PM) and ENGWR 94 (M 12:45 PM - 1:35 PM). The mission of the Puente Project is to increase the number of educationally underrepresented students who transfer to four-year Colleges and universities. Puente builds a community of motivated college students by providing English writing instruction in a supportive environment. The English composition course features Mexican American/Latino literature; the Human Career Development class helps each student plan their class schedules and navigate the university application process. Sign up using the one class number listed for the Learning Community (19858); you will be enrolled in three classes and will receive credit and a grade for each individual course listed in the Learning Community.

Description: This course covers the skills and tools necessary for daily independent living and success as a college student. It focuses specifically on disability management, personal goals and community and campus resources. It also serves as preparation for those individuals who are interested in careers in human services and disability services.

Description: This course covers the skills and knowledge necessary for college success. Topics include motivation, self discipline, learning styles, memory development, time management, communication skills, goal-setting, career planning, study skills and techniques, and critical thinking skills. Additionally, it covers personal issues that are commonly encountered by many college students. Campus resources, college regulations, and information competency are also addressed. This course is highly recommended for first time college students and/or continuing college students who would benefit. Field trips may be required.

Learning Communities - Umoja-Sakhu (8 units) This section of HCD 310 is taught in combination with ENGWR 101 (MW 10:30am-12:35 PM) and ENGWR 94 (W 12:45-1:35 PM) and is part of the Umoja-Sakhu Learning Community which is open to all students. This learning community is designed to enhance the cultural and educational experiences of community college students, particularly those who identify themselves as African American. To sign up, students must attend one of the following informational meetings to receive a permission number: April 21st 5-6pm; May 19th 2-3pm. Meetings are held in the Student Center Meeting Room 1.
