INDIS 321    Introduction to Group Tutoring    1 Unit

Prerequisite: None.
Advisory: ENGWR 102 and ENGRD 116 w/ a grade of C or better; OR ESLR 320 and ESLW 320 w/ a grade of C or better.
Enrollment Limitation: A grade of B or better in the course to be tutored. Faculty recommendation to be a Beacon or LRC group tutor.

Description: This course is offered in coordination with the Beacon Tutoring Program at American River College. It introduces the role of the tutor as a facilitator and presents the methods of effective group tutoring. This course emphasizes collaborative and interactive approaches to learning in a group setting.

19566 Above Learning Communities: One Semester, Two Levels: A Faster Way to Complete College Composition - ENGWR 300 and ENGWR 102 (6 units)
This learning community offers the opportunity to complete both ENGWR 102 and ENGWR 300 in one semester. ENGWR 102 material is taught in the first eight weeks, and ENGWR 300 material is taught in the second eight weeks. Because of the intensive nature of this course, it is best for students who are highly motivated and scored at the higher end of the cut off for ENGWR 102. Note: Students will also be required to enroll in .5 units of ENGWR 96 or ENGWR 306 (Writing Across the Curriculum). The mission of the Puente Project is to increase the number of educationally underrepresented students who transfer to four-year Colleges and universities. Puente builds a community of motivated college students by providing English writing instruction in a supportive environment. The English composition course features Mexican American/Latino literature; the Human Career Development class helps each student plan their class schedules and navigate the university application process. ENGWR 102, ENGWR 94, and HCD 310 are taught in combination as the Umoja-Sakhu Learning Community which is open to all students. This learning community is designed to enhance the cultural and educational experiences of community college students, particularly those who identify themselves as African American. To sign up, students must attend one of the following informational meetings to receive a permission number: Thursday April 25th or May 23rd 6-7pm; Tuesday, June 4th or July 2nd 1-2pm; or Tuesday June 18th or July 23rd 6-7pm.
